Farmhouse Display on Kitchen Sideboard

Back in April, I got to go on a bit of a shopping spree at Pier 1 Imports for my birthday.  Don't you just love picking out your own gifts? I certainly enjoy it!

Here's a look at how I put together some new and older items from that wonderful store to create a farmhouse display on my kitchen sideboard.

I'll start by showing you the items I picked out as my birthday gifts from Pier 1.

I love taking my time browsing around Pier 1 perusing all the terrific items but did manage to pick out this "Our Nest" sign right away.

I loved these black and white plaid patterned bowls and got a couple of those.

Of course, a few of the matching plates and coordinating checked napkins had to come home with me as well.

The store display at Pier 1 had these dishes and napkins paired with the Magnolia line in a farm to table vibe.  As much as I'd have liked to, I couldn't buy everything there so I set out to create a similar display using items I already had.

First off, I attached the Our Nest sign to the existing wall accent above our kitchen sideboard.

The black & white plates were placed in a wire basket within a galvanized bucket. This provided a nice backdrop to the vignette.

Magnolia blossoms (from Pier 1 a few years ago) were arranged throughout the display.

The black & white plaid bowls were set atop a cake plate.

I found this free printable online and put it in a black frame.  It added the perfect farmhouse text to the scene.

A white pitcher was placed behind the framed sign.

I tied some black-handled flatware with twine and arranged it in a small metal pot.

A farmhouse vase was filled with faux magnolia blossoms and eucalyptus leaves.

A couple of barnyard animals joined the set.

Bessie the cow has been in the family for many years and was happy to be called into action.

Another long-time friend, Rowdy the rooster helped out as well.

Beside them, a black faux oil lantern speaks of nights out in the barn.

The shelf above the sideboard also got a bit of home-y decor added to it.

I should mention that this is NOT a Pier 1 Imports sponsored post but rather just a look at how I spent my birthday money back in April. :)

Do you ever get to buy your own birthday gifts and if so, where do you like to go shopping for them?

Thanks for visiting!

  2. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!! My kitchen is black and red and I have watermelons and cows in it. All year long I have the black and white buffalo check and Christmas and winter I have the red and black buffalo check. You did an awesome job! I bought a few things you did with your birthday money a few months ago.

  4. Very nice. I like Pier 1, but find it pricey. I often don't buy anything. There are just so many nice things, that I can't decide.
I also love getting to pick out my own gifts.
    Have a great day,
    April
