It's a winter wonderland up there!
After a day on the slopes, it's fantastic when we can come back home and share a meal with friends.
With that in mind, I've set what I'm calling a
Christmas Apres Ski Tablescape.
I created little ski-themed centerpieces using bottle brush trees, ski ornaments and birch pedestals covered in buffalo snow.
Black lanterns were adorned with buffalo check bows and filled with...
...bottle brush trees wrapped in mini-lights.
The use of red and black buffalo check creates a cozy lodge-like atmosphere for dining when we come in from hitting the slopes.
The placesettings began with these mugs I found at Real Canadian Superstore.
I have plans to serve a hearty soup in them.
The buffalo check napkins and runner are really dish towels from the Dollar Store. I used three of them down the center of the table.
In keeping with the theme, I placed a ski ornament beside each mug.
The skis could be take-home favours but I've wrapped up little boxes of chocolates for each guest as well.
Naturally, I used buffalo check wrapping paper. :)
Some additional ambiance is provided at each place setting by the candles in these etched tree votive holders.
These snowflake wine glasses are perfect for the apres ski theme.
Even the back of the chairs got some festive touches.
Pretty wreaths were tied to the chair backs with coordinating ribbon.
I'm thinking this tablescape could serve as a gathering place for an early morning breakfast before hitting the slopes or...
...a late night dinner to discuss which were the best runs on the mountain that day.
Either way, I hope I've inspired you to take some time away from all of the craziness of the holiday season's to-do list and enjoy some down time around the table...
...even if your relaxation doesn't involve skiing...
...do something you enjoy and celebrate the pre-Christmas season too!
Some of the best memories are made and relived while gathered around the table...
...and it doesn't have to be just on Christmas Day.
Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteI love it! The lanterns and the buffalo check is just gorgeous! You make me want to stop decorating my master bedroom and go do a tablescape right now...
ReplyDeleteSuper nice job!!! They had buffalo check dish towels at your Dollar Store?!!?!?!? Wow! Nice! I’ve seen nothing even close to that here! I really like this cozy, comfy, warm look. It’s got all the elements of a snuggly good time!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! Love the buffalo plaid and the way you did the lanterns! After a day of being outdoors in the cold crisp air this would be quite a treat to come back to! I ice skated a lot as a youngster but I only went skiing once. You live in a beautiful part of the world!
ReplyDeleteYou've created an inviting table that beckons all to come and enjoy warm foods and good friends! The black and red buffalo checks are particularly cozy. You're right -- this is perfect for taking the time to relax before or after Christmas.

Absolutely perfect tablescape!!! I love all the buffalo plaid, it's completely perfect. You'd love one of my favorite cookbooks - The Ski House Cookbook!
ReplyDeleteA delightful table designed around a very clever concept. It would be wonderful to come in from the cold and have it waiting with mugs of hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI adore everything about this table! First of all, I love decorating with black and red for Christmas and you did it so beautifully! And second, we are a family of skiers so the theme of this table is just perfect! We ski in Killington, Vermont which is also having a great season already. Love this!
