Summer Tabletop Display

Only a fellow tablescaper knows the joy that comes from playing with dishes.  It is so fun to try out which items will work in a variety of table settings based on themes and colours.  And while creating tablescapes is my most favourite pastime, I also like to put together tabletop displays in much the same manner.

This is a summer display I created for my dining room tabletop.

I started with a small brown suitcase which I've had for years.

White dishes, faux grasses and other pretties were placed inside.

Seashell ball ornaments create a summery feel...

...as does this white starfish.

These two silver birdies add some shine to the display.

You can't go wrong with some candlelight and wine.

The white faux magnolia blossoms contrast nicely with the orange and green.

Glass candleholders filled with sand and tied with white rope make a nautical statement.

The only new items in the display are the orange and white placemats - Dollar Store for $2/ea.

Everything else, I've had for many years.

These white dishes by Pier 1 seem to be my "go-to" when creating this type of design.

Silver napkin rings coordinate with the silver birdies.

So it was just by playing around that I was able to create this...

Do you like to play with dishes?

You should give it a try!

And speaking of which, if you need inspiration for tablescape design, I hope you'll check out the...

  1. Oh, yes! I share that same affliction for dishes and pretties. Half the fun is shopping the house to see what would come together nicely, or is in the right color. Nice vignette with the suitcase, that's a new idea to me.

  2. Really enjoyed your summer table display. It is very attractive and interesting. Love the orange placemats, and this display could take you
right into fall by just changing out the coastal items. Great idea
    putting in the small suitcase..........

to do a lil playing for time to time............
Have a great day and thanks for sharing your pretty display.

  8. I'm like you and love to put together a tablescape but I never thought of doing a display like that. So beautifully clever! It's even better than a display you would see at Pottery Barn!

  10. Oh Lori, I just love your beautiful display! And yes...there is just something about tablescapping. I have found that even with the most simple...it still takes time. (But don't we love it?) I just love what you have made happen here! Hugs and blessings,Cindy

  11. I love this idea! This is a wonderful way to display your lovely dish treasures without doing a tablescape. This would be a perfect way to display pieces together that I don't have enough pieces of to do a full out tablescape. I hope you accept that copying is the best form of flattery, because I would like to borrow this idea and use it on one of my tables! Thank you so much for sharing at Celebrate Your Story. I have pinned this to my group Tabletop board, If you would like to join the board, follow it, and then send me a message and I will add you! I would love to include you!

  12. Yes! I LOVE to play with dishes, and love anything coastal. I was just mentioning to someone earlier today that I often wonder why I like what I do. I live in a landlocked state and yet have had a fondness for fish and shells since I was a little girl. The first set of dishes I collected which was when I was in college was Fitz & Floyd's "Coquilles." What you have done here is fabulous. Thanks for sharing.

  13. I love putting together tablescapes, too - but I'm not nearly as talented as you are. This is a fabulous look and everything coordinates nicely.

  19. I love your beautiful vignette.

I would love to do something like this on our dining room table, but it's where we eat every meal, I blog and where my husband builds frames for his paintings. So, a simple basket of shells is what sits there this week.

    Thanks for sharing with SYC.
