There's TWELVE Days of Christmas!

It seems I always have a similar post at this time of year and here I go again.
I feel sad when I read blogs right now! So many bloggers who LOVE to decorate for Christmas have ALREADY taken down their decorations!
The season of Christmas is TWELVE days long beginning on Christmas Day
and ending with Epiphany on January 6th.

You know the song "A Partridge in a Pear Tree/Twelve
Days of Christmas", well here's a look at TWELVE of my Christmas tablescapes from years gone by.
I will admit that I was once amongst those who always packed away Christmas early (always by January 2nd)
Mr. Delight was the one who made me realize I was doing it way too early and there was no need to rush the season.

I am so thankful he did!

There is so much to do before Christmas Day that one rarely gets the chance to truly relax and

 enjoy the decorations.

The lights around the house help make the early part of January so much more bearable.

When I came home from work today, I put on some Christmas music and lit some candles.

It is the perfect time to relax and reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

Extending the season also allows for more time to entertain and not have the festivities crammed into so few days.

With the decor still readily available, you can do numerous tablescapes, even planning one for next year!

I'll make a confession here....we leave our decorations up well PAST January 6th!

I hope I've convinced you not to feel like those Christmas decorations must come down so soon.  Relax and enjoy the fruits of your labours!

  1. Oh thank you so much for that!! We go until Jan 6 for Three Kings Day. I agree that the decor keeps things so warm and cozy through January when it's so bleak outside. I'll be taking down the Christmas decor this weekend but I will keep out everything 'winter' with lots of candles. Happy New Year!!

  4. I keep mine up too, Time goes so fast anymore that even though I put my stuff up Thanksgiving weekend it feels as though I JUST put it up, so why would I want to take it down right after Christmas??!! I have off tomorrow and was condsidering at least pulling out my totes and starting to get some stuff down and organized, my tree will be one of the last things taken down. It makes me so sad to not have that warm glow from the lights anymore.

  5. I'm like you, and leave the Christmas decorations up until at least January 6th and for the reasons you mention. I did organize the wrapping paper, gift bags, etc. and they are now stored away. I've enjoyed your beautiful tables very much!

  6. I'm with you. I leave my decorations up pasts New Year's, and they come down gradually. But with working Mon to Fri, I will probably take the tree down this weekend.

  7. Mine are still up, too. I am always so busy during the season that I don't really get a chance to kick back and enjoy them. This year I was sick from Christmas Day on, so I REALLY didn't get a chance to enjoy them until over this past weekend. We've taken everything down outside (taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather that is sure not to last long!), but the inside is still very Christmasy! The folks across the street and the folks behind us still have their Christmas lights glowing outdoors, so we can enjoy them for awhile! :-) I'm no longer listening to the Christmas music, though. In fact, I'm sitting here listening to Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" which, oddly, is one of my favorite songs. I am TOO strange! Happy New Year!!!

  8. One year I didn't take Christmas down until Spring Break! Yikes! Sweet Mister said, "We're not the last ones to take Christmas down; we're just the first ones to get Christmas up for next year. " gotta love that man. Thanks for sharing a peak of your glorious holiday surroundings with us. Happy New Year! Cherry Kay

  10. Hi DD!
You know I totally agree with you! What's the rush? Should we toss the live poinsettias that are still so beautiful?
I enjoyed looking at all your beautiful tables, one as gorgeous as the other!
And I have decided to run a string of lights through the large Cmas cactus to keep the twinkle in the dreary months ahead!
And merry Little Christmas today! May you be gifted with many blessings in the new year!

  11. When I was a kid, my mother kept everything up until January 6th! Ours are still up, but will be coming down this weekend. It will be sad and a little dreary for a while! :-( But my husband is ready for them to come down.

I love seeing all of your tables! Each one is gorgeous...such amazing variety!

  14. I've always been a Jan 2 gal, but this gives me pause to maybe extend the season at our house next year! Thanks for the thought. Dianne
