Now that Thanksgiving and Halloween are over, it's time to plan some Christmas tablescapes. This one incorporates plaid and a garland type centerpiece. Let's take a closer look!
There is just something about plaid that makes it perfect for Christmas. It has a cozy vibe that is both festive and welcoming.
There are many colour combinations of plaid that would work for the holidays but for this tablescape, I opted to use a red and green plaid.
I've incorporated a few different types of plaids in everything from the placecard holders to the garland centerpiece.
The place settings began with this plaid dishware I found at Home Hardware last year.
Green cloth napkins were embellished with faux red berries.
A plaid tree ornament serves as a placecard holder and could also be a take-home favour for your guests.
A coordinating red placemat is the base for the dish stack consisting of a barnwood-look charger, white dinner plate and ...
...and the smaller plaid plate on top.
The plaid mugs would be perfect for coffee or hot chocolate during breakfast on Christmas morning and the stemware next to them would be ideal for orange juice.
I chose my black handled flatware for this table.
Tucking a bit of the faux greenery between the charger and dinner plate adds to the look of the complete place setting.
Next, we'll take a look at the garland centerpiece.
This type of centerpiece is one of my favourites for a couple of reasons. It is low-lying which allows for open sight lines for my guests and they all get a similar view of it.
It is also very easy to put together.
For this centerpiece, I started with a simple faux cedar garland. Then I rounded up some plaid ribbon cut into approx 3" pieces, pine cones, faux snowflakes, extra faux cedar pieces...
I placed the cedar garland down the center of the table on top of a red runner and white tablecloth.
Then, I gradually tucked in all the different items here and there along the length of the garland.
The final touch was adding battery-operated string lights which provide a lovely ambiance to the table.
I chose to leave this as a low-lying centerpiece but if you wanted, you could also add some height by placing tall candlesticks at different intervals along the garland.

Otherwise, I have nothing except a black sparkle branch for Halloween since the kids were little (then it was cute pumpkins and cats and things to cling on the windows).
