Lilacs and Lemons Spring Tablescape

It is officially lilac season in these parts and so I thought I'd combine my love of these wonderful purple blooms with my other love of sunny yellow lemons for a spring tablescape. I rounded up all the items I wanted to use and discovered the combination of the two colours definitely look terrific together!

And thus, a lilacs and lemons tablescape was born!

Anyone who has ever tried to arrange fresh lilacs knows they are very messy!

So I decided to use some realistic faux lilacs I've had for quite awhile and they paired perfectly with the faux lemons.

I started with this lemon patterned table runner which was a recent purchase on Amazon.

Next, I layered some faux greenery garland and tucked the faux lilacs and lemons in here and there.  I also added some battery operated string lights.

I like this type of centerpiece because everyone at the table gets the same view and no sight lines are blocked.

The place settings were then coordinated with the centerpiece.

I started with purple placemats which are actually dish towels turned length-ways so that they drape over the table.

These lemon patterned cloth napkins were also from Amazon.  They were tucked inside a purple compote dish.

I made lilac placecards using Clipart on my computer.

A metal butterfly (part of an old metal wreath I took apart) was clipped on the edge of the dish.

The dish stack includes a white charger plate and yellow dinner plate topped with a white salad plate.

And for good measure, I added another little green appetizer plate. :)

The little green plates hold an extra embellishment of lilacs and lemons.

The compote dishes were then added.

Green handled flatware coordinated with the greenery on the table.

These lemon glasses that are on loan from my mom were the perfect stemware choice.

I've set the table for a ladies luncheon which unfortunately likely won't be happening anytime soon due to social distancing...

...but I'm going to remember this idea for future consideration next spring when we can hopefully gather again and celebrate just being together!

Are lilacs in bloom where you are?

Their lovely scent and colour are so uplifting and a good reminder that spring has returned and the seasons continue to change despite the world situation.

Bee Themed Tiered Tray Decor

Hi there friends! Hope you are hanging in there during these crazy times.  Have businesses started to open up where you are?  We've begun Phase 2 here though I can't say I'm in any hurry to get back out there yet.  With the hope that it might brighten your day, I thought I'd share my latest tiered tray decor with you.

I went with a bee theme and of course,  I had to add a few lemons and some yellow tulips as I can't get enough of their bright and cheery colour.

Inspiration for my tray decor came from this "Give Bees a Chance" sign and indeed, bees need to be celebrated and given a chance!

Some bee facts:
Bees are vital to both pollinate the food we need to survive and to pollinate many of the trees and flowers that provide habitats for wildlife.   Pesticides, pollution, parasites, infections and other threats such as the recent arrival of the "Murder Hornet" to parts of North America are all causing a decline in bee populations.

This little yellow chair (now painted) and honey pail (embellished with computer print-out) are from the Dollar Store a few months ago.  The little bees are actually buttons I ordered online from Walmart.

I felt the tray needed more bees, so I printed some from clipart on my computer and taped them to the edge of the tray and in a few other places.

A metal butterfly has landed on the top tier of the tray hovering close to the nearby faux yellow tulips.

I found these little bee bowls in a local gift shop's clearance section back in February.

I made a few of these cute little beehives by hot-gluing twine to the top portion of a plastic Easter egg with additional twine and a black felt pen to make the entrance. I ended up with excess glue showing but I'm pretending it's honey!  :)

I moved the beehives here and there on the tray as I couldn't decide where I liked them best.

This shows a little bit of a different version of the tray decor.

Because I usually have this tiered tray on the end of our kitchen island...

...I like to have both sides of the tray decorated. Here's a look at the opposite side of the tray.

The yellow honeycombed container is actually for honey though it's purely decorative for the time being.

You can see in the background, that I've added other splashes of yellow to the kitchen to coordinate with my spring decor here ..

...and on this side of the kitchen.
(you can see more pics of this sideboard decor HERE)

I like having this bee-themed tiered tray as the first thing you see when you enter the kitchen.

The yellow and black colours and it's theme are perfect for this time of year...

... and a good reminder that we need to protect the bees!

Lemon Themed Drinks and Snack Station

If you've been following me here and on Instagram, you'll know I'm on a lemon-theme kick right now and I've been adding lots of the faux variety to different areas of my spring decor.  The pop of yellow is so cheery and it is just what we need while we are stuck at home due to the pandemic.

Here's a look at a set up that might provide some inspiration on how to add lemons to a spring or summer drink/snack station which you could set up inside or outdoors.

For a tablecloth, I used this green and white striped turkish towel I found at a dollar store last year.

A couple of small lemon patterned bowls from HomeSense last summer were the inspiration for this vignette.

I scattered faux lemons throughout and made these faux slices (Amazon a couple months ago) look like they've been freshly cut to give you a feel for what you could do with the real thing.

The flatware and cloth napkins were tucked inside a small basket.

Lemons are indeed pretty "zesty"...

...and this little sign (Pharmasave gift section) added the perfect touch to my display.

A large farmhouse styled vase of faux forsythia and small pots of faux greenery created a colourful backdrop.

This Rae Dunn pitcher stands ready for perhaps, the addition of some refreshing homemade lemonade.

To create a spring/summer vibe, taking center-stage in the drink and snacks set up, is a white birdcage.

I elevated it on a wood riser and added bits of forsythia twigs with greenery and of course, a lemon!

With the cage door open, this little birdie is glad he can join the party.

Whether you are still on "stay at home" orders or are allowed to venture out a bit...

...I hope you continue to find a "zest for life" and...

...adding lemons to your decor is a great start!

Even if it is just for those of you sharing the same roof, decorating a drink/snack station with some of their sunny yellow might add some cheer to the situation.

I hope I've provided a bit of inspiration on how to incorporate the lemon-yellow, now you just have to come up with the snacks and drinks!  :)
