Green Apple & Buffalo Check Tablescape

As we head into August, I'm thinking of the upcoming apple season that will be here before we know it. I love fresh crisp apples, both red and green.  That was my inspiration for this al fresco table I set for a recent outdoor dinner for two.

I went with a green apple theme, threw in a few green pears as well and set it on a background of black & white buffalo check.

I decided to use this round wire lantern that I've had for years as a centerpiece.

I put a faux candle in a glass vase inside.

Because it is easy to see through the wire, I could fill the inside with decor.

I placed a bunch of these tiny faux pears, some wire orbs and greenery inside.

The wire lantern was placed on a wooden charger which had a buffalo check cloth napkin draped on top.

Some faux green apples were set next to it.

More green wire orbs and faux pears make for coordinating table scatter.

Next to the lantern, I placed black pots filled with greenery and faux apples.

Black & white buffalo check napkins were tucked inside.

The green runner is actually 3 cloth napkins placed together. I also used the same cloth napkins on top of the white placemats to add more of the green colour there.

Buffalo check pillows provided the perfect coordinating backrests for the chairs.

These black and white plaid dishes are from Pier 1 as are the cloth napkins.

I made apple-themed placecards for fun.

Faux green apples were tucked inside the bowls.

Black handled flatware went well with the table decor.

Cute little faux pears were set next to the forks.

Even the plants surrounding the table went well with the decor. :)

I love having hosta plants in pots. They come back every year and you can put them wherever you want.

This is the side of the yard where Mr Delight and I enjoyed the tablescape for both dinner last night and this morning's breakfast.

And since more sunny weather is in the forecast, I think I'll leave it set up for awhile longer.

Hope you have been able to enjoy some al fresco meals as well this summer. There's something so special about dining outdoors.

Thanks for visiting!

Tiered Tray with Garden Decor

You had to know that it wouldn't be long before there'd be another post about how I decorated my new tiered tray.  I have so many ideas for this new toy that I'm afraid you are going to see it often.  I hope that's okay with you!

This tray makes the perfect centerpiece at the end of our kitchen island.

Here's a look at how I added garden themed decor to my tiered tray.

This little sign was the inspiration for the decorations I rounded up by shopping the house.

I placed it center stage on the bottom tray.

Beside it, I stacked some small white bowls.

A white birdie sits on some purple napkins.

The view moving around the side of the tray.

In keeping with the garden theme, faux lavender plants in white pots were placed throughout the tray.

More white birds and greenery fill the spaces on the other side.

This birdie is perched beside a nest and egg.

Egg-shaped dishes were nestled among the items on the bottom.

I found that laying one of the pots of lavender on its side added another dimension to the tray.

The decor on the top tier of the front side adds to the garden-themed vibe...

...with some peat moss pots and a nest of eggs.

A little silver watering can was also tucked inside.

I like decor arranged in a tray because it easy to move when Mr Delight and I want to sit at this end of the kitchen island to eat.

We still have more updates to do on our oak-to-white kitchen makeover but we're enjoying what we've done so far - especially the faux marble laminate countertops (Formica 180fx - Calacatta Marble)

Next project is taking down this track lighting and adding some pendants over the island.

In the meantime though, I'll focus on playing around with decor options like that on my tiered tray.  :)

Hope you don't get tired of seeing what I come up with for it!

Cobalt Blue & Lemon Yellow Table & Some Easy Entertaining Tips

It's always nice to have guests staying with you during the summer however it can be also take some effort to get meals ready for them. To make things easier, I like to keep the food simple but make it seem fancier by laying out the necessary tableware in a pretty manner.

Here's an example of how to make a help-yourself breakfast feel more special for your guests.

Orange juice in a beverage dispenser not only looks nice but is easy to serve.

A little embellishment in the form of a simple daisy napkin ring tied to the top of the dispenser goes a long way in dressing things up.

Some striking stemware adds to the look.

Here, I've placed some cobalt blue glasses in a metal tray ready for guests to help themselves.

A summery vibe was created by scattering faux lemons throughout the table decor.

Add height to your tabletop with the help of pedestal plates, dish stacks and a pitcher full of stems.

Cobalt blue plates coordinate with the stemware.

Blue & white striped cloth napkins were made more elegant with white daisy napkin rings.

Arranging the appropriate flatware in a cute container adds to the fun.

I used my gold-en forks for a touch of class. :)

Even in summer, candlelight adds ambiance so bring out a lantern or two.

This table was set out on our deck just off the kitchen.

I like to use two separate tables, one for the dishes & stemware like this one and another for the food.

Will you have overnight guests this summer? Hope I've inspired you to keep the food simple but your table fancy!
