Winter Living Room in White, Brown and Cream

After taking down the Christmas decor earlier this month,  I went with a more neutral look for the living room in hopes of creating a winter vibe.
The main colour scheme consists of white/brown/cream.

As it is a long narrow room, it is difficult to get a "full room" view but hopefully you'll get the idea through the following pics.

My coffee table centerpiece is a round basket of pine cones and candles in glass vases.

The cylinder vase inserts hold Epsom salts as "snow" and the bottoms are filled with smaller pine cones.

I love the look of "multiple pillows" on furniture in living rooms but unfortunately, it just isn't practical in our LR which we use a lot. (ie: Mr. Delight doesn't want to have to fling all the pillows on the floor whenever he sits down! And actually, I hate when guests have to do that as well.)
Thus, I've kept it simple with two of these oh-so-soft-furry pillows I got as a gift from my daughter for Christmas. The matching throw is seen in the pic below.
(Believe me, I've tried to drape or "throw the throw" beautifully across the chair but it always looks messy to me!)

On one end table, I've placed two of my brown metal pine cones, a trio of candles and a clock.

Some faux white hydrangeas in a metal container create a backdrop.

The other end table looks like this.

On the other side of the room, the fireplace is decorated for winter (to see more of  the mantel, click HERE).

See the tall stand in behind the chair?  I'll show you what's on there next.

I'm never quite sure what to call this stand, maybe  its a "baker's rack" but usually we refer to it as an "etagere".

Here is a shelf by shelf look.
Shelf #1
I got the brown metal tree-scape at a local decor store (Evolve) and attached it to the etagere with some wire in a few places.

Sorry for the shadows...took these pics at night in a hurry!
Shelf # 2

I used some of my glass blocks on each shelf for an icy look.
 Shelf #3
I rounded up a lot of my white and silver items along with snowflakes of course.
Shelf #4

Thanks for checking out my living room's winter look.

I must say, my favourite thing about this winter room is being able to warm myself by the fire!

Winter Tea Time

Being someone who loves winter, I really wanted to participate in Cuisine Kathleen's Snow/Winter Table Challenge but I've been out of commision lately due to a sore back and wasn't up to doing a full scale tablescape to fit the theme.

Then I came up with the idea of a Winter Tea Time on a tray.  I hope Kathleen will approve and let me join in her party!

My "backdrop centerpiece" for this tea tray consists of 3 apothecary jars filled with faux snow and pine cones.

A closer look inside one.

A winter-white birdie sits beside some snowflake mugs.

I love the snowflake pattern on the mugs. My grandmother recently gave them to me when she down-sized to move to a care home.  They will always be very special to me.

Would you care to sit and have a cup of hot tea with me on this winter's eve?

Of course, if you prefer, I also have another form of refreshment on the sideboard.

These wine glasses were a Christmas gift from Mr. Delight.
The snowflake design is perfect for our apres ski get-togethers.

This snowflake wine stopper was a gift a few years back from my sister-in-law and fits the theme perfectly!

So which do you prefer on a cold winter's night, a hot cup of tea or a relaxing glass of wine?

Thanks for visiting!
Be sure to head over to Cuisine Kathleen's for her Snow/Winter Table Challenge Party - maybe grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine on the way!

A Frosty Winter Mantel

Hi there!  I've been busy lately! I spent last week taking down the Christmas decorations, packing it all away, cleaning and then redecorating in a winter theme. You might think I'm LATE in doing so, but that's the way we like it at our house - we enjoy Christmas to the fullest and for a LONG time!

Starting with this one, my next few posts will show you what I've come up with for adding a frosty flair to a few areas around the house.

Today, we'll look at the fireplace mantel...

Once again, my Frosty Family makes an appearance...

Over the holidays, we received 3 sets of these cute orament-skis as hostess/host gifts.

I thought they looked perfect propped against my snowman family.  Like us, they love to ski!
I also used two of my glass blocks with some white mini-lights(can't have ALL the lights gone after Christmas!) and snowflakes.

Snowboy joins his parents who are ready to hit the slopes with their skis.

I hung a large snowflake in the center of the round mirror and added other smaller snowflakes along the mantel and above the mirror.

The hearth is kept simple with a black lantern and a wooden vase containing brown grasses.

This is my first "winter mantel" since our fireplace makeover (click HERE to see that)
Hope you enjoyed seeing it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Christmas Glam Meets Rustic Woodland

As mentioned in my previous post, I was sick during the holidays and wasn't able to get this tablescape posted till now.

Hope you enjoy seeing it a bit late...

My inspiration for this Christmas Glam Meets Rustic Woodland tablescape came from this beautiful glass cloche a co-worker gave me which I filled with an assortment of silver ornaments.

For a more natural rustic look, I paired the glammed-up cloche with this real/faux "runner" of greenery I created using steps outlined below.

Take an old piece of faux greenery
and some fresh real pieces of greenery
Gradually place each piece of real greenery amongst the faux (a bit messy but cleans up easily)
(Yvonne at Stone Gable gives a great tutorial HERE on making a wreath using this method)

Once the greenery was complete, I nestled the base of the cake plate which contained the ornament-filled cloche amongst the branches and scattered with faux snow.

Okay, now on to the rest of the tablescape....

The place settings were kept very minimal with no placemats (did you notice, NO tablecloth either - a big change for me with our new dining set!) and plain white dishes on silver chargers.

My acrylic snowflake napkin rings on rolled white napkins added to the simplicity of the design.

A silver bird speaks to the shiny glam of the table...

...while my brown metal pine cones add a rustic element

This view into our dining room gives more of a wintry woodland feel ...

...whereas, the view looking from the dining room towards our tree makes the tablescape take on more of a Christmas look.

Candlelight for the table consists of a simple white taper set in a shiny silver holder on each side of the cloche centerpiece.

I kept the centerpiece and runner on table for a few weeks until the real greenery branches began to lose their needles. (Below, you can also see I've hung snowflakes from our new chandelier)

Here's a closer view of how I've decked out the sideboard for the season.

My favourite Frosty Family

Some acrylic, glass and crystal pieces add some sparkle to welcome the New Year.

Hope your New Year is off to a great start!
