With partial lockdowns and travel restrictions in place again, I'm missing my 21 month old granddaughter more than ever this holiday season. Although she won't get to sit at it, I designed this gingerbread themed Christmas tablescape with her in mind.
Inspiration began with this sign (last year's purchase in a local gift shop) and with a childlike imagination, I thought how fun it would be to live on "Gingerbread Street". I really enjoyed creating this table setting based on my vision.
I was very happy to find these wonderful quilted gingerbread people in the decor section of our local Pharmachoice drug store.
They had the larger ones (as above) and these smaller versions.
I placed them along the length of the table as a centerpiece with the larger ones on a riser in the middle.
Guests get a similar view on the opposite side of the table...
...but now they've turned the corner and are on "Candy Cane Lane"!
The gingerbread-baker-man greets his customers outside his bakery in this part of town.
I placed two matching Christmas swags on each side of the center riser...
...and tucked the cute gingerbread people into the greenery.
I didn't have any gingerbread houses so I used these white houses with lights inside as well as some other metal houses I had on hand.
There was lots of layering of the table linens. A red & white checked tablecloth was the backdrop to brown placemats and then brown table runners were spread across the table.
A candy dish with a gingerbread man ornament was set at each place setting. I made appropriately themed placecards on my computer using Clipart.
On the other side of the table...
...I used these snowflake salad plates as I only had two of the gingerbread ones but I thought they coordinated well.
Snowflake mugs were adorned with candy canes. Bottle brush trees add a Christmas vibe.
My red handled flatware also went perfectly with the colours on the table.
I hope you enjoyed your tour of Gingerbread Street and Candy Cane Lane.
I know Mr & Mrs Gingerbread were happy to show you around.
I'm dreaming of next Christmas when hopefully, this pandemic will be over and we'll be able to gather again. I plan to recreate this tablescape and have my granddaughter come over and enjoy it with me!
Thanks for visiting!

Oh, Lori- how cute is that????!!!! This is such a fun and whimsical happy tablescape! You did it up so well. I am so sorry your grand won't see it - but you plan on putting it up exactly like this next year. She will even appreciate it because she will be older. I have a feeling this will be a Christmas tradition for her for many years - it's THAT adorable.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Advent season.
Stay safe, stay well, stay hopeful...
Oh my goodness! I absolutely love this theme and everything looks so festive. My grands would love to see this. Ooh....maybe next Christmas I will do something like that. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

Lori, my heart melts over this adorable gingerbread tablescape. I love it so much. Pairing it up with the red and white plaid and gingham is the sweetest! Two of my most favorite things! So much fun for young and old alike. Certainly to make everyone smile.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally adorable. Why not pack up a place setting and send it to her with some gingerbread and cocoa mix. I know that we are separated from our only grandgirl...and I still made her advent calendar with craft supplies for each day---and now she messages or calls each day to discuss what was in the day's slot. We have to be creative in sharing this year. Hugs, love your whimsy, Sandi
ReplyDeleteLove those signs!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness; what an adorable table setting! I bet your granddaughter would have loved that. You'll have to recreate it for her when you can get together again even if does end up being a Christmas in July celebration.
ReplyDeleteI simply love this table.

ReplyDeleteThis so beautiful! How creative you are!! Thank you for sharing. Could you let me know where did you buy the candy cane ln. Sign. The other sign I know where to get it, but not the candy cane ln.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind compliments! I really appreciate it! I bought the Candy Cane Lane sign (and the other one) at a local gift shop so I can't link it. You might try Amazon as I see they have some similar signs there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. ~ Lori
