Fall Picnic in the Woods

Lovely fall days encourage us to get outside and enjoy the fabulous sights and sounds of nature.  Sometimes, it is difficult to go very far due to time constraints of everyday life. We are fortunate in that we don't have to travel any distance to soak in autumn's glow and enjoy a ...

Our backyard borders on a wooded area nestled between residential streets. Although not technically on our property, I took advantage of the spot to set up for a tabletop picnic.

Coffee mugs await a fill up of...

...steaming hot coffee from this carafe along with a splash of Bailey's Irish Cream liqueur.
(no, not sponsored... just a favourite!)

I like the juxtaposition of using pretty dishes and flatware outside in a casual setting with a birch vase filled with clippings from nearby trees.
(Leaf plates from HomeSense)

A soup tureen will be filled with some spicy chili to keep the body warm. Although not an expected picnic item, when you are so close to home, it is easy to serve.

Leaf bowls are the perfect vessel for the chili.

Space has been left on the table for the buns, coleslaw and Mars bar squares that I put out after I snapped these pics - and got too busy/lazy to go back and get my camera.  :)

Two of these wooden ducks were used to create the table centerpiece.

Along with birch pieces, pine cones, white mini-pumpkins, wheat sheaves, some faux leaves and a faux antler, the ducks were set in a long woven basket.

The natural look of the combined elements fit in with the outdoor picnic theme.

The white blurred object above the lantern on the left, is a house on the next street with a trail connecting the two areas.

So we are not actually in the woods but I'm pretending.

A black lantern's orange candle burns brightly in the cool fall air.

Being so close to home, it was easy to bring comfy chairs, pillows & blankets to the picnic.

And once the picnic is over, no need to load the car, we just carried everything back into the house.

A fun fall getaway without leaving the neighbourhood.

Thanks for visiting!

  6. Hello, Visiting from What's It Wednesday. Isn't it so much for to create vignettes and staged scenes, only to have to carry it all back in when finished! Yours is absolutely wonderful, love the outdoor setting and that centerpiece is fantastic, I love ducks. Your fur pillow is perfect for the setting too.

  9. I am mad about plaid and I adore your fall picnic! I love dining outdoors whenever possible and a picnic in the woods is fabulous. I actually set up a plaid picnic in the snow in our back yard a couple of winter's ago. It was a beautiful sunshine day, and even though there was snow on the ground it was calling my name. lol! Love your entire tablescape! Hopped over from Pieced Pastimes. Happy to be a new follower. I have a link party, Share Your Cup Thursday. It's about sharing the things that make you happy. I'd love if you shared sometime!
    hugs,
