Rustic-Glam Gold & Brown Christmas Tree

I'm in the midst of putting up this year's Christmas décor so I thought I'd share these pictures of our tree from last year.

I never got them posted then so hope you enjoy seeing them now.

I loved that we had so much snow at Christmas in 2013.  It made for a great backdrop outside the windows.

For years, we enjoyed our Christmas tree with multi-coloured lights...

...but last year, we decided to make a change and bought a tree with white lights.

I like how the lights now coordinate with the other white lights above the windows.

I purchased ornaments that created a glammed up woodsy look ...

...and represented our love of snow and skiing.

A gold mesh ribbon was wrapped in and around the tree.

I created a tree topper out of a styrofoam-like snowflake I bought at Bouclair Home.  I poked a small string of lights through the edges and put most of them behind it.

Later on in the season last year, I got the idea to cut up a wide mesh ribbon into pieces and just scrunch them into random sections of the tree.

This was in addition to the thinner mesh ribbon that I already had wound around the tree.

I like how the extra mesh ribbon pieces filled the spaces and it was easier to work with than adding the wide mesh ribbon as a whole.
(The ends do fray but since they are hidden in the tree, it didn't matter to me)

I'm planning on decorating our tree in the same way this year.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I adore your tree. White fairy lights are one of my most favourite things in the world. I have them in my house all year round....lol! And your idea on the pieces of mesh ribbon is genius. Mimi x

  2. I love anything rustic glam, so I had to stop and visit your tree -- very pretty! We switched to all white lights a few years ago, and it's awesome! :)

  3. I love your tree! I have been looking at the rustic tree decor that is out at the stores. I started buying pine cone owls last year, if I am lucky I will find enough after Christmas to do a rustic tree for next year.

  7. So you were holding out on us, huh? Didn't let us see this gorgeous tree last year!!! :-)

You did a wonderful job on it, and I love the addition of the "pieces" at different intervals. I finally learned how to create those "puffs" as I go along putting the ribbon on the tree in one continuous piece, and for the first time this year I did it. Easy and fast...just what the doctor ordered! Since your tree was already done, your solution to adding the "puffs" was perfect! And nobody ever knew anything about the frayed ends!!! :-) (I love having little secrets like that!)

You chose really rich, luxurious colors that lend a lot of opulence to the woodsy theme. Very pretty! I've followed a similar path this year, and I love the look! You have some really great ornaments to play up the theme, especially those that represent your love of skiing!

Thank you for FINALLY sharing this! :-) I hope the decorating will go along swimmingly this year! Happy Thanksgiving!
