My First Pink Saturday

I'm joining in for the first time with the Pink Saturday meme hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.

This is a pink Valentine table for two I created last year
for Mr. Delight and I.

The table is next to our front windows and
we often eat breakfast here.
I decided to dress up the table for an intimate dinner using a pink tablecloth, pink candles, pink hearts and pink flowers.

Pink tulips in a glass vase are put on a pedestal cake plate.
I surrounded the base with white mini-lights covered in tulle.
The crystal candle lamps are by Partylite purchased
quite a few years ago.
The pink beaded hearts were from HomeSense last year.

This pink and white china is called Dimity Rose by Royal Albert.
It is the pattern we chose (well I chose!) 27 years ago
for our wedding china.
I used vinyl heart-shaped cling-ons on the stemware and votive holders to make them fit the theme.
The burgundy ringed glasses are special to me as I inherited
them from a favourite great aunt.

This is another tablescape I did before I had a blog and can you imagine, I only took 4 pictures of it!  I'm showing this pic again enlarged so you can see a bit more detail.

Thanks for looking! Happy Pink Saturday to you all!

Valentine's Tablescape

Another week has flown by and its time for Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.  Be sure to check out our hostess, Susan's fabulous example as well as all the great tablescapes linked to her blog.

I'm showing a Valentine tablescape I did last year (before I had a blog) when we had another couple over for dinner.  Mr. Delight had brought me the red and white carnations and I took it from there.

I used my black and white bowls along with square salad and dinner plates on top of red chargers.

The centerpiece was created using this lidded glass jar filled with faux snow and heart garland.  A black feather boa was placed around it with faux red roses tucked in here and there.

Many items that you see with hearts on them were "created" using vinyl stick-ons.  I love making ordinary accessories "themed" by using them.

The vase in the background is filled with faux ice, a few glass hearts and mini-lights.  It made for a romantic light once the lights were dimmed.  Unfortunately, didn't take a pic then.   I also didn't take very many pics of the table in general.  Blogging sure makes you think of all angles when taking pics!

A Shiny Silver Penguin

Do you have the winter blues or cabin fever this time of year? I hope this tablescape warms your heart and adds a little shine to these dull days.

I had my eye on this shiny silver penguin at a local hardware store for awhile now and when the post holiday sales were on, I scooped him up for half price ($10).  I was also thrilled to find the mercury glass silver trees at a local drug store also at half price ($7 ea)

I put Mr. P. and the trees inside an icy wreath on a round tray with some LED cordless lights, some silver berry picks and silver "disco" balls. If you look close, you can see the frosty snowflake on each of the trees.

I tucked in some of these long silver twig-like strands on each side and flanked them with the snowflake hurricane shades set on mirrors.

These snowflakes are hung from my chandelier.

My black and white salad plates topped a white dinner plate which sits on a silver charger.

As night falls, the silver icy look takes on a warmer glow...

The black, white and silver combo gave me an idea to make this a celebratory tablescape so ....

...I added a few items and it becomes a Happy New Year 'scape!

Best wishes for 2010 to everyone in Blogland! Be sure to head on over to Between Naps on the Porch and check out all the wonderful tablescapes that have linked up to Susan's terrific blog for her 74th Tablescape Thursday.

It's Still Christmas!

Here at the Dining Delight home, we (Mr. Delight too!) LOVE to leave our decorations up well into January. If you put on some Christmas music, light some candles and turn on the tree, you will still get that "Christmas feeling" and there is no pressure to do the work that goes with it - it's my favourite part of the season!  With that in mind, I'm going to post another Christmas tablescape for this week's Tablescape Thursday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.

This was my tablescape for our Christmas dinner on Boxing Day.  We had had dinner with the extended family elsewhere on Christmas Day but I always like to cook up a turkey for us to have at home as well.   Our daughter and her boyfriend and our son and his girlfriend were home and it was special to be able to have a smaller dinner with them.

My daughter and her boyfriend gave me these black/red poinsettia plates last year for Christmas.  I love the drama of the dark rich colours and used them with a black tablecloth.

I used napkins as placemats as they matched the runner.  A black charger was layered with a shiny gold one followed by gold-rimmed dinner plates and of course, the special black salad plates.  Then came gold-look flatware, doubled red/green napkins and acrylic-crystal napkin rings.

The centerpiece was created using a faux greenery swag that has some gold spray on the ends.  I added some picks, pinecones and balls to dress it up.  Six stemmed candle holders (older item by Partylite) were placed at various points throughout.

The snowy white backdrop outside creates a nice contrast
to the  deep rich colours inside.

If you look close you will notice that the clear glass stemware(beside the black glasses) has the same "ribbed" type appearance as the candleholders.  I didn't buy them together but was pleased with the "match".

If this tablescape looks familiar to you, it might be because I first created it OUTSIDE for the Christmas in July meme that Felecia at Playing Dishes was hosting last summer. (click HERE)

Now, head over to Susan's where you will find all kinds of ideas for great tablescapes. Thanks, Susan for hosting this meme!  We all love it!

New Christmas/Birthday Plates

I had received a gift certificate to a local store from my sister-in-law last April for my birthday.  I carried it around with me for many months always browsing in the store but never really finding exactly what I wanted to use the gift certificate for.  Just before Christmas, I spotted these red plates and knew I'd found my birthday present!

There are 4 patterns per set (I bought two sets/8 plates).  This pic shows the snowflake design.

I love this gingerbread man & woman design!

I didn't get a good pic of the Christmas tree one.

Do you think I might be able to use the dove plates for
Valentine's Day?

My red/white Santa & Mrs. Claus sugar and creamer set go well with the new plates.

I added my snowman family and acrylic light-up trees to the tablescape.

My Grandma, Mom and I took turns prior to Christmas to host weekly luncheons.  I used my new red plates and this tablescape for the lunch at my house.

The Snowman family wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

A New Year

Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2010!  We rung in the New Year at a party with friends but now I'm looking forward to quiet times spent at this table eating meals with Mr. Delight, reading a good book and just enjoying the ambience of my Christmas decorations.  Remember its "The 12 Days of Christmas" and there is no rush to take anything down!  Sit back and enjoy your labours!

Susan at Between Naps on the Porch is showing some of her "Bloopers of 2009" and I just had one today.  Look outside the window in the following picture and you will see I snapped it just as a loader was clearing snow from our street.

Go here to check out the "out-takes" Susan shares with us. Hey, they happen to all of us!
