Whether you live near the beach or not, summer is the season where dreams of being by the water abound.
With that in mind, I created a little beach inspired tablescape for two in our backyard.
Though not nearly as wonderful as the real thing, our meals here act as a mini-getaway to the beach without ever leaving our yard.
A white tablecloth provides the backdrop for all the aqua coloured items on the table.
Starfish play a major role in the theme.
Inspiration for the tablescape began with these new melamine dishes from the gift section of our local Pharmasave.
They are such a pretty shade of water-blue and the design on the edge reminded me of water droplets.
I placed the melamine plate and bowl atop a brown charger which was set on a turquoise placemat.
I added a blue starfish plate inside the bowl.
And for fun, a "seaside living" votive holder was placed on top.
Blue and white striped napkins were embellished with a metal star attached to a wood napkin ring. I tucked the fork inside which is a favourite look of mine.
Two of these aqua coloured wine glasses served as the stemware.
These starfish not only look pretty, they are heavy and provide the perfect tablecloth weights in strong breezes.
The beach themed centerpiece for the tablescape was created using this wire lantern that was placed on a round white tray.
Here's the final look but below I have a pic with the items you need to create a similar look.
I've labelled all the items I used for this centerpiece here.
Any combination of similar items that have a beach theme to them would probably work equally well.
The faux beach grasses were threaded through the wires on the lantern. (My lantern is from Home Outfitters awhile back before they went out of business.)
The candle in the cylinder vase was placed inside and the starfish, shells, rope balls, etc were arranged around the base of the lantern.
This gives a pleasing view from all angles.
We enjoyed having this table set up for our "mini vacations" in the backyard during the pandemic especially when we might not feel totally comfortable with dining in restaurants yet.
No matter what we eat here, it feels like we've gone to a patio by the shore. Have you ventured out for restaurant meals yet?

DeleteThis definitely takes me directly to the beach! Loved that you based the design on aqua since it's one of my favorite shades to use on the table. I liked that you used your starfish as weights -- if I use the idea, maybe I could imagine that we have breezes in the backyard lol.
