Quarantine Date Night - Table for Two

Soon after the pandemic quarantine began, my husband came up with the idea of having a stay-at-home date night.  He said we had to make at least one day of the week seem more special and different from the other days.

And so it began that every Friday, we plan a dinner that is a bit out of the ordinary though not too elaborate since we mostly just want to relax and enjoy the evening together.

Naturally, that has led me to create some additional ambiance for our special evenings by designing various tablescapes for two.

Here is a look at a recent table I set for a rainy Friday evening where we had to be indoors.

This table by our front windows provided a cozy spot to enjoy our meal.

My colour inspiration began with these faux blueberries I got recently at Urban Barn.

I created a centerpiece by placing them in a small wooden crate which was also a recent purchase at Real Canadian Superstore.

To add a romantic vibe, I added two of these white roses which are actually napkin rings.

A faux floral arrangement and candles were placed behind the blueberry box.

Everything was arranged on a white crate (turned upside down) and it was draped with a blue scarf.

Two rustic wooden lanterns were placed on each side of the crate.

The place settings started with a round woven placemat topped with a silver rimmed charger.  A blue patterned melamine dinner plate and cobalt blue bowl topped the dish stack.

White rose napkin rings surround blue cloth napkins.

Large wine glasses were the stemware of choice.

When choosing the items for the table, I grouped them together to see how the colours and textures worked together.

And for fun, I played around with adding throws and pillows for the pictures.

Perhaps you can imagine a romantic story to go with the props.

Having a romantic dinner for two under stay at home orders in the middle of a pandemic actually might be a good story if it weren't for the fact that it is real life!

I'm thankful to Mr Delight for turning what could be a depressing situation into something positive.

Here's an example of the type of meal we have for our date nights.  Cheese fondue is simple to put together but fun to eat.

Add some wine and the occasion becomes even more special.

Although restaurants are now open for patio seating in our area, we are enjoying our date nights at home so much, neither of us feels ready to venture out yet.

An added bonus is that we are saving money too!

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love this. Last year around fall when all of our kids moved out to college, I removed the leaf in our breakfast table and set up a similar (not as cute as yours) table. I loved how it changed the mood when we sat together to eat. Never thought of fondue. I need to get one of those pots. Great idea and beautiful as always! Enjoy!

    1. Thanks so much for your sweet comment Cindy! Yes, there are definite advantages to being empty nesters. We love having fondue. We just buy the prepackaged fondue, cut up some bread and add some other tidbits for dipping/snacking on and it is a simple but "fancy" meal.

  3. That's a brilliant idea - and to keep you happier, a more solid marriage - good for you making those tables be so beautiful (love it!) and good for HIM for coming up with the idea.

And - color me embarrassed - but I had NO idea that's what a blueberry looks before it is plucked and put in a container. Haha. So now only I see beauty here today, I learned something new besides. Thank you!!!

  10. It is easy for the days to all blend together during lockdown, Lori, and I really like how you and your husband designated one evening as date night. This is such a pretty tablescape too, so many of my favourite shades of blue again! We aren't venturing out much yet either, and I think you could probably continue this fun idea indefinitely! Thank you for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party Community. I’m featuring this post at the party this week. Hope to ‘see’ you there!
