White Roses & Black Lanterns Tablescape

I had fun designing this tablescape with my daughter and her fiance's recent visit in mind. With the new-ness of their engagement and wedding planning in full swing, I wanted to create a dining environment that captured the mood.  White roses and black lanterns with a touch of blue and burlap made for a romantic yet rustic vibe.

It can sometimes be difficult to create decor that combines a masculine and feminine feel such as for this dinner or if you are hosting an engagement party or couple-type wedding shower.

Which is why I chose to use black lanterns for the centerpiece. They add a more masculine element to the table.

Some of the lanterns were placed on birch pieces which also gave a manly look.

A burlap table runner sets a rustic tone.

As do these mini burlap bags that hold the flatware.

White roses tucked in among the lanterns add the feminine touch to the table.

Battery-operated lights and greenery were woven in between the lanterns as well.

For a natural touch, a garland of greenery runs the length of the table and...

...encircles each place setting.

Placecard holders incorporated the white roses setting a romantic tone.

Along with the white rose, a small glass bowl was filled with some blue & white acrylic beads...

and a name card was attached to a sprig of greenery with a mini clothes pin.

Stemware also coordinated with the table.

Blue cloth napkins were layered between the white plates.

Each place setting had an individual blue tealight candle placed beside the flatware.

Originally, I was going to transport this tablescape outdoors but as it turned out, we had a severe wind storm that evening and we ended up eating right here in the dining room.

The power was out and we appreciated the candles and mini-lights that created a wonderful ambiance to the meal Mr Delight cooked on the grill and brought indoors.

The evening was lovely and we were counting our blessings for many things including the fact that our property was spared as the wind wreaked a lot of havoc in our city.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. It is a gorgeous tablescape, rustic n romantic with a vibe of freshness....love it...but I have a question ; as if we decorate the table so well , than where should we serve the food dishes,? as on the table there is no room to keep the food....

  2. Beautiful table, Lori! Looks to me that there's plenty of room for serving dishes between the place setting and in the corners. I like the white and black with the soft blue accent.
