Winter Decor on the Etagere

Étagère : A piece of furniture with a number of open shelves for displaying ornaments. It was extensively made in France during the latter part of the 18th century.
I've had this étagère for a long time now and although I've thought of replacing it with a bookcase or other unit, I just can't let go of it.

The main reason is the fun I have adding seasonal décor to each of its shelves.

Winter is no exception so here's a look at the étagère decorated for this fun season.

I added the brown metal tree wall-art to the back of the top shelf a few years ago.

These white moose add the perfect touch for this outdoorsy scene.

The moose is a popular Canadiana symbol and thus, very appropriate for my Canadian winter display.

Of course, I brought out my Winter Welcome Sign as well.  The deer head candleholders were a Christmas gift.

The second shelf's full view.

Mr. Frosty stands behind a sleigh.

In the middle of the shelf, I filled a wooden box with white candles, mini-skis, pine cones and a white metal star.
A snowflake grapevine wreath I made sits behind it.

To the right of the box, mini ice skates add to the winter sports theme on this shelf.

The skates are actually Christmas tree ornaments I got at a clearance sale.

On the third shelf, you'll recognize an ongoing theme...white metal stars.  To me, there was something wintry about them -
perhaps bright stars in winter's dark sky.

Which is why I placed them against these dark cases in the picture below.

A snowy white owl sits atop a birch log.

Pine cones were also displayed in the same manner.

The fourth and final shelf has similar elements.

A brown metal container is filled to the brim with pine cones. A white star and snowballs decorate the tray propped up behind.

This little winter vignette is grouped together on one side.

A wooden lantern and three more snowballs complete the look on the bottom shelf.

And here's the full view again...

  1. Love it all! The snowflakes and stars add the perfect touch. I like the pine cones on the birch pieces the the moose that look like they're challenging each other. Makes me think of going to a resort with the luggage, skates and skis!

  2. Hi Lori, your etagere is perfect for displaying your seasonal items. Your winter display is so interesting with so many neat things displayed. Love the moose and the tree line you added to the top. So so cute. I vote to keep it and just keep changing it for the seasons.

  4. I love all of your winter additions creating a frosty good look for this etagere. I have a baker's rack that could use similar treatment. I actually have (somewhere) the same snowman that you have here. I had completely forgotten about it, so am going to have to dig it out. Thanks for the inspiration! Visiting from Saturday Sparks.
