Late Summer Etagere Decor

With summer whizzing by, I thought I'd do a bit of transition décor on the étagère in the living room. The display I created should work well for a late summer to early fall look. In case you don't know, an étagère is a stand with a series of open shelves for small objects.

The etagere I have has glass shelving but I wanted more of a Farmhouse look so opted to put decorative burlap (Michael's) on the shelves.

Here's the completed décor but I'll take you through the items and vignettes I've put together shelf by shelf.
I have a metal wall art piece (trees) wired on to the top of the etagere. It stays on there year round and provides a decorative background for whatever I put on the top shelf.
Brown pillar candles and a red fleur-de-lis vase sit to one side.
And on the other side, sits a wooden lidded box holding red taper candles.
The second shelf
I picked some of these brown-eyed Susan flowers from my yard and put them in a wire basket.
They were placed in mason jars tied with raffia.
A burlap sack of faux apples, pears and pomegranates sits beside a metallic pot and grapevine wreath.
This black lantern displays an apple candle.
The third shelf
This burlap sack is filled with faux Granny Smith apples.
In the middle of the shelf, a little bird looks out of this brown metal birdcage embellished with a burlap daisy.

This black rooster and another red vase sit on the other end.

The bottom shelf
Mr. D gave me this wonderful carved cross for my last birthday.  I set it in front of a woven basket.
This wire candleholder is the perfect spot for another faux red apple.
A lidded box with built-in clock showcases a couple books and faux boxwood wreath.  I placed a birch-covered vase and another metallic pot next to it.
The full view
Now that this area has been decorated with a late summer look, I've enjoyed spending time reading here.
The title of my book is fitting as the season winds down.
Are you hanging on to summer or ready to transition into fall?
Thanks for visiting!

  4. This is decorated really so nicely! It's so cute and charming... The fresh flowers add a nice pop of color. I'm starting to get ready for Fall but with it being over 100 out it doesn't seem like fall at all. Coming from WoW!

  5. Love how your shelves came out, they looks so nice and can definitely look
like Fall as well. Loved the idea of using the burlap on the glass shelves.
I have a white etagere and that would really add some warmth, so think I
might just have to copy kat you when I do my Fall decorating this year, if
    you don't mind..........
It really does look so nice.
    blessings, Nellie
