Summer Display in a Tray

I took advantage of the gorgeous weather today and created a summer display in a tray for the backyard. Even though we live in the mountains and far from any ocean, my summer décor often gravitates toward a beach theme. We do have some lakes and a river nearby so water based décor is definitely still appropriate.

I grouped everything in a woven tray and added items which would be needed for a simple lunch for two. A white pitcher filled with faux grasses acts as a backdrop for the display.

My inspiration started with this aqua mason jar lantern I recently purchased at Home Hardware.
(I filled it with shells and blue glass beads)

This mason jar in the same colour was the vase for a bouquet that was delivered to me a couple of weeks ago. I was thrilled that it happened to be the exact same colour as the mason jar lantern.

These wine glasses also went perfectly with the water theme with their blue colour and tiny bubbles around the base of the glass.

A white pedestal cake plate holds décor items and some plates.

I've had these shell-shaped plates for ages and always like using them for displays of this nature.

Two forks are set inside colour-coordinated napkins.

What's beach décor without a starfish and shells?

And it all comes together like this...

Pull up some Adirondack chairs and it's the perfect setting for a light lunch.
(The table is actually our firebowl with the lid that Mr. D made for it which converts it to a table)

Let's start with some wine...

Did you notice that the glasses also have little fish etched on them amongst the waves and bubbles? Love them! They were a birthday gift from my SiL.

A bottle of wine and a few snack items are ready to be enjoyed.

The divided glass dish holds grape tomatoes, shrimp, cheddar cheese and pickles which will go well with the crackers.  Some corn chips and salsa round out the light lunch.

After lunch, a relaxing read or nap in this chair would be the perfect way to enjoy the afternoon.

Do you create "beach-themed decor" even if you don't live near an actual beach?

Thanks for visiting!

  3. Yes, I do decorate in a beach theme! I live about 2 hours away from the beach, but I can always dream I hear the ocean right outside my window! I love your display! I just did something similar for Memorial Daybut you have given me some new ideas!

  5. This is a very nice display. I have to be honest, I live within a 5-minute walk to the beach. Therefore, I use beach-themed decor frequently. But I will confess, that in the winter I sometimes use mountain-themed decor even though I don't live by the mountains. (I especially love pinecones.) Does that make us even? *wink

  10. I live in a Victorian house in a village in Upstate NY so no beaches here! I just love your vignette because it is aqua which is my new favorite color. I have been decorating with it this Spring but I don't have anything like yours. It is so summery with a seaside feel. We can always dream of being by the water, right?

  16. How darling this is! I love coastal decor as well, despite living in a landlocked State. I have the Adirondack chairs and matching footrests, the pair made by my dad, and I have shell dishes. Now I need the rest. I am totally crushing on those wine glasses. Lovely.
