On July 1st, Canada celebrated it's 146th birthday. Being a very proud Canadian, I decided to mark the occasion with a dinner in our backyard this past weekend and decorated our cabana accordingly.
I wish you could have been here... let's pretend you are one of my guests...
Would you care for a pre-dinner cocktail? (Appropriate in colour, they are strawberry lemonade with a splash of vanilla vodka.)
Feel free to relax in this decorated Adirondack chair
(My dad made two of these beauties for us a few years back)
Or you may prefer sitting in one of these chairs with matching footstool.
(A recent purchase from Home Hardware)
The "table" in the middle of this area is actually our new gas fire-bowl.
(Mr. Delight made a wooden top for it to keep out the rain
which also makes it into a table.)
Here's a quick peek at it but I'll do a more in depth post on the fire-bowl another day.
Dinner is almost ready so please bring your drinks over to the table and have a seat.
Here is your place.
Faux boxwoods, flags and lanterns line up to create a festive centerpiece.
I love this round metal hurricane my SIL gave me. I added some Canadian Flags -"Dollar Store-cling-ons" - to the glass and scattered shells inside.
Speaking of the "cling-on" flags...did you think I actually had Canadian Flag dishes?
Nope... these were created by pressing the vinyl cling-on onto the plate and putting the clear salad plate (below) on top.
Voila...instant themed dishes!
The table runner consists of three kerchiefs/bandannas from the Dollar Store.
All of the pillows you see here were created using the same type of kerchief/bandanna
(just pinned on existing pillows though!)
On the menu this evening:
Apple Coleslaw
Pork Cutlets Mornay
Brown Rice
Grilled Asparagus
Sauteed Garlic Mushrooms
Strawberry Shortcake and Whipped Cream
We were fortunate to have lovely weather for our Canada Day dinner!
Happy Canada Day!
Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteFun idea to use the cling-on's to spice up the dishes! I'm going to have to adopt that idea! I have some clear chargers I could use to get the same effect. Thanks!
