Christmas Lantern Buffet

Last year during the Christmas holidays, I prepared a small buffet setting on my dining room table using black lanterns. I never got it posted then so thought I'd share it now.
My inspiration came from putting these three things together...
Black Lanterns
Christmas Garland/Picks
Glass Blocks (for under the runner)

It is pretty self explanatory as shown in the pictures below but I nestled the lanterns in amongst the garland and set them on top of the glass blocks (for height) and covered with a red runner.

The winter scene outside makes the glow from the lanterns look all the more cozy.

A stack of Christmas plates on top of plain black ones stand ready for easy access.

I placed the cutlery inside glass vases lined with cloth napkins.

A selection of cake plates will hold the appetizers and desserts.

Wine glasses are placed next to the plates.

A little birdie is bundled up with a hat and scarf!

The "stage was set" for a relaxed and enjoyable evening with friends while sharing a few appetizers and dessert squares (of the Costco variety which allowed me to have time to relax too!)

I'm thinking I should do something like this again this year!

  1. This is the perfect inspiration for me right now. My table is set with red, gold and black and I wanted to carry that through to Christmas. I host a Boxing Day party and need to do a buffet style table.
    Thanks.

  18. I'm completely blown away by your outside Christmas decorations. Who puts them up?? My lights are all screwy! Yours are so straight.

The table and vignettes are beautiful as well (or should I say, as usual).
