Back to School Tablescape

In many areas, it is the season of Back to School. Here, school starts on the Tuesday after the Labour Day Weekend.  With that in mind, I created this themed tablescape.

Perhaps, it will inspire you to make the transition of back to school a bit more fun with a meal at a similar table.

My inspiration for this table began with this lettered table runner I found at a cute shop while on vacation.
The centerpiece started with this burlap sack full of faux green apples.
On one side, I added this cute chalkboard easel from Michael's
and on the other side, I placed this ampersand sign on top of some books.
Sunflowers and some common school supplies were scattered amongst these items.
Green, white and black dishes on a brown woven-look charger make up each place setting.

These numbered (1-4) pocket placemats (which also fold into napkins) worked wonderfully for this school themed table.
(from a unique shop on one of our travels this summer)
I placed a pen, pencil and notepad in the pocket. I found the tiny chalkboards-on-sticks at the Dollar Store.  I only printed letters on them but they'd work great as placecards.
I embellished these plastic green cups with ruler stickers (also from Dollar Store).
Coordinating green handled flatware was tied with ribbon.

I added these lettered blocks (DS again) to the ribbon.
Sunflower tealight holders (Partylite years ago) created a cozy glow at each place setting.
Do you have children going back to school?
Do you think creating a Back to School tablescape for breakfast or an evening meal might help make the transition from casual summer holiday mode to orderly school routine easier?
Hope you'll stop back soon to check out my next post where I'll highlight what is on the coordinated sideboard behind the table.

Here's hoping your house is a little quieter with the children back at school and you'll have more time for checking out blogs  :)

  1. How cute and clever. Love the fall colors and your theme is perfect for the kiddos. Love the green flatware and your added fun element. No kiddos here....just the grands when they visit. Happy Sunday.

I'm a retired elementary teacher, so "back to school" is something I had lots of experience with. Ha!
I think any child would find this table delightful and fun for celebrating a new school year.

  10. I Love the way you tied everything together with the blackboards (large and small) for your back to school table. The sunflowers and the apples remind me that fall is around the corner. Have a wonderful weekend..... Candy

PS: Your sideboard is just lovely with the tall vases of sunflowers and the mix of greens and black. Love the lanterns and the cloche, love it all!!
