Lake-Themed Buffet Set-Up on the Kitchen Sideboard

Summer is the time to keep work to a minimum and make things as easy as possible on yourself.   With that in mind, I've put together this lake themed buffet set-up.

I love it when guests can help themselves and I think they feel more at home that way too so I've created a handy self-serve area on my kitchen sideboard.

This is for the dishes, napkins and cutlery. The food is usually served on the kitchen island.

My inspiration began with this Lake Street sign I found at a gift shop on one of our travels last summer.

I hung it on this framed shiplap and went to town with accompanying beach themed accessories, decorating the shelf above as well as the top and front of the sideboard.

On this end, I placed wine glasses with a sign that lets guests know they are welcome to join in our "happy hour" after their day at the lake.

I have a few of these crates that are painted a bluish white which ties in perfectly with the theme.

I created another beach vignette in the middle section using a sailboat.

A wooden anchor and mini Adirondack chair along with another sign were placed beside the boat.

A basket holds the catch of the day!

Looking to the far end of the sideboard...

...you see the spot to grab a plate...

...and some cutlery.

Napkins were also placed in the little bucket.

Beach grasses in a woven vase, a small sailboat and another crate make up this vignette.

I also added some decorative touches to each end of the sideboard.

A crate holds a turquoise pillow, greenery and some shell shaped plates.

Some fish netting and a blue and white table runner were draped over the side.

This is the view on the other side.

A small lantern, shell ball and sign sit on top of this crate.

Would you like to visit my Lake Street Cafe where it's totally self-serve?

I promise to do the dishes!

Sunny Days Lemon Cake Tablescape

My friends and family know that I'm a huge fan of desserts and will even forego some of my meal in order to save room for a sweet treat.

It's definitely not good for the waistline but here's a cake I won't feel tempted by because, although it looks delicious...

...it's FAUX!!

I recently ordered it online from an Etsy shop called  Country Chefette and couldn't be more pleased!

I was excited to set a table that featured this wonderful cake and headed outdoors to our little cabana area to take advantage of the sunny days we were having at the time.

Inspiration for the colour scheme came from these melamine striped plates from Bed, Bath & Beyond which I got earlier this season.

Coordinating blue-green table runners were placed across a yellow tablecloth and did double duty as placemats.

The dish stack consisted of a white/gold charger, white dinner plate and the melamine salad plate with a cloth napkin tucked between the plates.

I added these little dishes with faux lemons as an extra embellishment for the place setting. They could also serve as placecard holders.

The acrylic hobnail stemware were each surrounded by a small faux wreath and white flower.

I also used faux florals in this arrangement I put together for part of the centerpiece.

It was set on a riser and flanked by two gold lanterns.

Of course, the faux cake was the featured centerpiece with faux lemons scattered around.

When you set the table just for fun like I do, it is great to be able to include a food item that doesn't have to be prepared in advance and won't melt in the sun and this realistic faux cake is perfect for that!

The faux lemons on the cake are removable allowing for the "flavor" of the cake to change so I'll be able to use any type of faux fruit and coordinate any colour of tablescape with it.

I have to say though that just looking at this faux cake has me craving the real thing so I just might have to ask my mom (the talented baker in the family) to come up with something to satisfy my sweet tooth!

Lavender & Allium Outdoor Summer Tablescape

I moved outdoors for my latest tablescape. The weather has been sunny and warm so it was the perfect time to enjoy an alfresco meal.

I combined lavender and allium for a table full of purple power.

The cool colour tones helped make us feel comfortable in the warmth of the summer day.

The centerpiece began with three of these faux pots of lavender to which I added a faux allium bloom.

These glass candleholders were placed between the pots of lavender.

Faux lamb's ear stems were tucked into the lavender in the middle of the table which created a softness to the design.

The place settings started with a purple placemat topped by a gray charger.

Next, a melamine grape-patterned salad plate sits atop a sage-green dinner plate.

The dish stack topper is a purple compote dish with an allium bloom for an added embellishment. Silver flatware was tied with a purple ribbon and placed alongside.

An acrylic beaded napkin ring encircles both a green and purple napkin.

Faux lavender stems were tucked inside in keeping with the theme.

An aerial view of the finished tablescape...

...complete with a "candelier" overhead which adds to the ambiance in the evenings.

I also added fairy lights to the centerpiece for a little sparkle.

In the background here, you can see a bit of our outdoor lighting as well.

This was a fun tablescape to put together using these purple flowers and coordinating it with our backyard lawn by adding green accents.

Have you been able to enjoy many alfresco meals this summer?
