Tea & Desserts on the Sideboard

As promised in my last post about my Mother's Day Luncheon, here's a look at how I set up my sideboard for tea and desserts.

First off, I want to point out an easy way to fit more items on your sideboard/buffet/table when serving or even just for decorating purposes.

I have quite a few of these "dish stacker" metal racks.

By placing them in different areas on your sideboard/buffet/table, you can create more room for both food and dishware.

Just cover the racks with a placemat, napkin or tablecloth and they are "good to go". It is best to use something that keeps the dishes underneath easily accessible.

 Okay, onto the desserts!

I used this trifle bowl for ...

...the Strawberry Shortcake Trifle.

By having the compote dishes directly below, it was easy to serve.

These clear plates and the glass cake plate behind held the...

Chocolate Cream Pie

With plates and forks nearby, guests could help themselves.

A tiered glass stand stood ready for...

...some bite-size cream puffs, Guiness cheesecake brownies and quartered chocolate chip cookies.

Teacups are ready to be pulled into action.

The centerpiece on the sideboard is a bouquet of lilacs placed in a white pitcher.
(Shhh, don't tell anyone, they are fake!)

And there you have it! A simple, easily-accessible way to arrange your sideboard when serving tea and desserts.

Mother's Day Luncheon

Hello again friends! Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day last weekend.  Here's a look at how I spent mine.
Due to the fact that our backyard patio area wasn't set up yet as we were in the process of cutting down a tree there, I was unable to hold my Mother's Day Luncheon outdoors.  As such, I tried to make the dining room feel spring-like and we ate indoors.

I created a centerpiece using a long rectangular basket filled with Dollar Store green "grassy" orbs, faux lilacs, some metal butterflies and a purple pillar candle on a martini glass tucked inside the grass orbs.

A glass vase with a pillar candle was placed on each side of the basket-centerpiece.

The butterfly theme was extended to the stemware which have little butterflies etched in the glass. We enjoyed Pink Fizz cocktails in these. (recipe here)

Placecards were displayed in mini take-home bouquets for each guest.

The little vases are actually spice jars tied with ribbon.

I used my aqua-coloured dishes (HomeSense) with white salad plates and chargers.

These little birdie napkin rings also add a spring touch to the table.

The tablecloth is special to me as it was my Grandma's who passed away one year ago this Mother's Day.

Some different angles...

I kept the menu pretty simple with items I've made many times before.

While I didn't manage to get any pics of the main course items, I did get some of the desserts which I'll show you in my next blog post.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my Mother's Day Luncheon tablescape.

Please stop back soon to see how I set up the sideboard for this luncheon. (Click HERE to see).
