Halloween in the Dining Room

Happy Halloween My Friends!
As promised in my previous post, here is a look at my
 Almost Midnight Halloween Tablescape.

The idea for my "Almost Midnight" Halloween Dining Room began by moving this large clock from the kitchen to the sideboard in the DR.
(Link to see DR sideboard décor at bottom of post)

For my scary table centerpiece I inserted some orange lights (battery operated) into the back of this skull.

To give it prominence amongst the table décor, I placed it under a cloche and elevated both on a cake plate surrounded by a berry wreath.

The colour version...

On each side of the skull centerpiece, I placed a metal votive candle holder filled with mini-skulls, orange acrylic glass chunks and a couple of tealights.

The place settings were done in silver, black and white with a treat bag as placecard.

A small creature welcomes guests while trying to sneak some stray candy corn.

Let's take a look at what is lurking in those back corners...

On one side of the buffet, black roses add a sinister elegance to the décor.

On the other side, a wicked witch slyly sits in wait of what prey she might find at or on the table.

With the help of some photo-editing, the room takes on an eerie glow.

Would you like to stay for dinner?
Or have you lost your appetite?

Thanks for visiting!
Hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween!
(Happy Birthday to my son, "LMR")

Halloween Sideboard

I can't believe we are about to head into the last week of October already!  In the spirit of Halloween fun, I'm sharing my "Almost Midnight" vignette on my sideboard.

As you can see by the hands on the clock, it is time to Beware!

Little creatures are scurrying...

The owls are wise to something...

There is a sense of foreboding all around...

Evil spirits are trying to escape their confines...

Creepy-crawlers are fighting to get out...

Is that a devious smile on the Jack-o-Lantern?

What's that on top of the clock?

A vampire bat...could it be Count Dracula?

Don't be frightened!
 Just have a Happy Halloween!

 Thanks for playing along!
Be sure to stop back next time when I'll show you what's been "blurred" to protect the innocent...

 Thanks for visiting!

Canadian Thanksgiving

Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October.

We were fortunate to have had two dinners last weekend to celebrate this special holiday.

On Saturday evening, my parents hosted the larger family gathering at their house with a delicious ham and scalloped potatoes dinner.
On Sunday, I prepared a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings for a much smaller group.

Of course, whether the gathering is for a few or many, the table should be set to reflect the significance of the occasion. This silver turkey from HomeSense made the perfect centerpiece.

It was placed on a clear pedestal cake plate and nestled amongst a faux berry wreath along with some glittered pumpkins and silver wire balls.

A square silver candle and a mercury glass candleholder were placed on each side of the turkey centerpiece.

Place settings were created using white and orange dishes on a silver charger.

A side view of a place setting.

The full table view.

The sideboard was decorated to compliment the colours used on the table.

 Silver candlesticks and ...

...orange mini-pumpkins

with tall branches and more pumpkins in the corner.

Though we were few in numbers, we celebrated in style and of course, were thankful for the meal and our many blessings.

I hope all my fellow Canadians had a wonderful Thanksgiving and wish my American friends all the best for their upcoming holiday in November.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've been busy around here this weekend getting things ready to celebrate Thanksgiving.
For my international readers who might not know, Canadians celebrate this special holiday the 2nd Monday of October and this year, it falls on October 14th.   We are having our turkey dinner on Sunday though and looking forward to having leftovers on Monday while we relax and enjoy the day...always mindful of how much we have to be thankful for.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians!

I hope to share the tablescape I've created for our holiday meal next week.

Fall Coffee Table Centerpiece

Hi friends! Have you done any fall decorating around your home?
Here's a mini-tutorial on how I put together this simple coffee table centerpiece for fall.

I used two cylinder vases with inserts, a round basket, faux pumpkin garland and snips off a berry garland.

The cylinder vases are filled with orange acrylic "glass" chips, a mini-pumpkin and

the inserts have gold beads with a tealight inside a glass votive cup.

These are then placed in the center of the round basket.

The pumpkin garland is nestled in on each side of the vases.

The final step is to place the berry sprigs in any spaces that need filling.

A benefit of this centerpiece is that it is low enough that we can see over it while enjoying a fire in the fireplace.

I've used these same basic elements in a coffee table centerpiece to create a different look for each season.
