Thanksgiving Preparations

As mentioned yesterday, I've been busy getting organized for our Canadian Thanksgiving coming up on October 11th.  I want to have the tablescape all planned out so I can concentrate on the meal and hopefully, some visiting too.  Here is what I think I am going with unless I get another brain wave (and time to "play") in the days ahead.

Of course, I am linking up to Between Naps on The Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

Unless I've just gotten some new dishes, my tablescapes usually start with the centerpiece.
This one was inspired by this fall floral ring
I got at the Thrift Store for $3.
I added 2 hurricanes with candles and
a glass vase with some faux Gerber daisies.

Next, I try to pick out the dishes
for the place settings. (Alas, nothing new)
Here, I used my orange plates with
a mix of some green and some yellow salad plates
on top of my woven-look chargers.
Amber stemware and gold-look flatware were added.
A glitter pumpkin with a name tag and
raffia ribbon marks the place settings.
Faux leaves were tucked in the napkin rings.

Each guest will have individual votives and
salt and pepper shakers at their place.

An angled view

A dark brown tablecloth grounds
the bright fall colours.
Gold runner and placemats complete the look.

On each side of the centerpiece, I placed a pumpkin under glass, a Global Fusion (Partylite) votive holder and a pumpkin shaped tureen (TSC years ago).

And now for some night time drama....

Above, is a shelf on the wall next to the dining table. I've decorated it with scarecrows and votives.

Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks to Susan at BNOTP for hosting Tablescape Thursday!
Grab a "cuppa" something hot and indulge yourself for a few hours in the land of dishes found there!

Centerpiece Wednesday

I'm joining in The Style Sister's weekly meme of Centerpiece Wednesday.
Here is a sneak peek of the centerpiece
I've created for my Thanksgiving table.

Canadian Thanksgiving is on Oct. 11th this year
and I'm trying to get organized by
planning how I'll set my table ahead of time.

 A little night time drama....
Hope you'll check back in on Thursday
to see the full tablescape.
In the meantime, head over to
other terrific centerpiece ideas.

Fireside Fall Fun

We have had nonstop rain here the last few weeks and it has been the perfect time to light some candles and turn on the fireplace (easy, as its gas).
I love the feeling of drawing in and being cozy that comes with fall weather.

This is what I currently have on our living room coffee table.

A wicker tray holds a chest with drink coasters, some pumpkin and fruit picks and of course, one set of my trio of glass vases - so fun to decorate! This time, I've put mini glitter pumpkins and leaves on top of black stones inside them.

Yes, those are Harley Davidson drink coasters we've picked up on some of our travels.

The fire casts a warm glow over the room.

While I like the painted white brick of our fireplace, we are starting to contemplate making some updates to it.
This leaf bowl (a Walmart find last year) needs some kind of snacks it.

A full view of the fall decor on the mantel above the fireplace.

Hope you've felt warm and cozy in my living room. I'd love for you to have a seat by the fire while I make us a pot of tea.

Where I Blog, AKA "My Nest"

With this post, I am "nesting", "showing & telling", "inspired" and sharing some "favourite things" and as such, I'll be linking to some wonderful blog memes which you can  check out at the end.

I thought you might be interested to see where I blog. This is my office, but it is better known as, my "nest".  It is a VERY small room that used to be our son's bedroom (a "before" pic is coming up) (poor guy - it really is tiny but he never complained - no wonder he went off to university so happily!) .

Let me point out some of my favourite things about this special space.

My chandelier that I picked out at a Canadian Tire store last year.

My Desk that Mr. Delight bought me for my birthday (Sears catalogue).  "Some assembly required" apparently means "you build it from scratch"!
(Thanks to hubby for sticking with it!)

I am hoping to get a better desk chair soon.

My new metal "leaf" wall art that I bought at HomeSense and put over my desk.

My big fat leather chair and ottoman that I got on sale at an Ashley Furniture store. I just love curling up in here with a good book or magazine.
(Now, that is a "nest")

My side table (just a decorator table covered with a tablecloth until I find a better one) is the perfect spot to add some fall decor.

Lit candles make the room seem even cozier.

Hot coffee with a blueberry muffin and some honeydew melon makes the perfect snack.

Across from my big chair is this bookcase which used to be an ugly faux pine colour but Mr. D. painted it black for me. He also put in a small flat screen TV on the middle shelf.

Some pumpkins and a clock on the top shelf.

A scarecrow and a pumpkin in the midst of two hydrangea prints sit on the bottom shelf.

In this pic above, do you see the closet door beside the bookcase?

This is what is inside - a dish pantry that Mr. Delight built for me.

Not a very good pic as I had already started packing up, but this gives you an idea of what the room looked like before it became my "nest".

I spend so many hours in this tiny room in our house and just love it!  I love the coziness of the small space and that it has my pretties in it, both the ones I've added and the ones YOU have for me to look at on my computer!
Special thanks to my dear hubby for fixing up the room and letting it be totally mine!

I'm linking up to some fabulous blog memes this weekend and hope you'll check them out!
