My Mom Cave

Kate over at Centsational Girl is hosting a linky party about "Mom Caves" with HomeGoods sponsoring a giveaway! On Monday, Susan at Between Naps on the Porch is also hosting the Mom Cave contest.
I don't know if HomeSense (Canadian version of HomeGoods) counts but thought I'd join in the fun!

"My Mom Cave"
For years, men have had their guy hang-outs in the home but lately, more and more women are carving out some territory for themselves.
In today's busy world, where women are always on the go, it is essential for them to have a place to relax and recharge.
In our home, this place is called my "NEST".
I love this tiny space for the feeling of coziness and peace that envelops me as soon as I walk in.
Here, I can enjoy all of my "down-time" activities....

...in a space that was

...decorated by me!

Even if I don't win this contest, I'm planning on getting some new lamps and I LOVE the ones at HomeSense/HomeGoods.
I'd also love to get a new desk chair like this one offered at HomeGoods.

It is wonderful to be able to escape to my space and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a snack.

Mr. Delight transformed this old pine bookcase into a great TV stand with shelves to decorate!

In this pic above, do you see the closet door beside the bookcase?

This is what is inside - a dish pantry that Mr. Delight built for me. Another joy!

This gives you an idea of what the room looked like before it became my "nest".

Special thanks to my dear hubby for fixing up the room JUST FOR ME!
Am I a mom in her "cave" or on her "nest"?

Pumpkin Power

Tis the season of  PUMPKINS and oh what POWER they have to create bold beautiful decor! Whether used individually or in groupings, whether real or faux, whether used for Thanksgiving or Halloween, Pumpkins are the PERFECT addition to your home for this time of year.

Here are a few samples of Pumpkin Power that I've created over the last few years.

Stephanie at Under the Table and Dreaming is having a Pumpkin Parade Party which I will be linking up to and since Pumpkins are some of my favourite things to decorate with, I'll also be linking to A Few of My Favorite Things at Bargain Hunting & Chatting with Laurie.  Be sure to stop by these great blogs!

Halloween (2009) Re-Visited

I'm still working on this year's Halloween Tablescape so thought I'd re-post last year's in the hopes that some of you missed it as I was a new blogger then.
Of course, I will be linking up to Tablescape Thursday hosted by Susan of Between Naps on the Porch.  I'm sure there will be lots of very scary 'scapes to check out!

I started out with more of a "cute" themed table but it gradually changed ....

...into a more sinister 'scape.  I got Ms. Witch last year at the half price sales after Halloween and decided to make her the centerpiece of my table.   She is guarded by two ever-watchful black ravens perched high on some Partylite candle holders.

Mr. Delight helped me set up some different lighting for this shot and I like the effect created on the table.

The skulls that flank Ms. Witch are some I have had
for awhile now.
I put a tealight inside to give them a spooky glow.

I cut off the black spider in this pic but he is waiting to see what evil potion is being poured into this glass.
A "possessed" skull is screaming inside the other glass.
(glass looks dusty but really, it is the lighting!)

I used some black/white swirl plates on black chargers.

The napkins are graced with some lovely cut off witches' fingers.

More light to see what evil lurks....

A closer look at one of the skulls

Are you frightened yet?

Happy Halloween!

Halloween Decor

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is time to move on to Halloween decorations.  Here is a look at some old and new items I've created to give you a smile or a fright!

This is a centerpiece I created out of stacked cake plates covered with napkins and decorated with skulls and other Halloween items.

I thought the Battenburg lace runner on the black tablecloth added a bit of  twisted romance to the Goth look!

I really like these square black plates with jack-o-lanterns I picked up at a local grocery store (Overwaitea Foods).

I call this tablescape "The Melting Witch".  Check out the "hands" sticking out of the orange tablecloth.

Black lanterns (usually outdoors on our patio table) make great Halloween decorations when accented with cobwebs and spiders!

A black and orange tablescape with "cute" spiders atop pumpkin soup tureens.

A trio of  Partylite black wire candleholders with orange pillars makes the perfect centerpiece for this 'scape.
Did you notice the end of the fork covered with a cut-off witch's finger?

A look at what I hauled down to the office coffee room at work to help add some Halloween fun there.

Love these light-up jack-o-lanterns (got 3 of them) that I got on sale last year at Pharmasave ...too bad the batteries don't last very long and it takes three AA's!

I will be linking this post to Tabletop Tuesday over at Stroll Thru Life
Be sure to check out all of the participants there.  No doubt, there will be lots of "tricks and treats" for the eyes!

Time to Give Thanks

This year, Monday, October 11th is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada.
I will be busy the next couple of days preparing for the holiday but wanted to leave you
with a little reminder that its
Time to Give Thanks.

Thanksgiving is a good Time to count your blessings...

...and say a special prayer of Thanksgiving to God above

It is a time of inward reflection and a time of fellowship with family and friends

A Time to remember those less fortunate

A Time to Thank those who have
had an impact on your life

Here's wishing all my fellow Canadians a Wonderful Thanksgiving!
Hope you enjoy your weekend and are able to take a few moments to truly GIVE THANKS!
