Cooling Things Down

The weather has really warmed up around here lately so I thought I'd cool things down a bit with some pictures of a winter tablescape I did last January. Don't the hanging snowflakes make you feel cooler already?

This tablescape started with some lovely blue and white plates I received as a Christmas gift from my dear daughter. I love the delicate pattern on the border.

I put them with some square bowls I had, setting the bowls on an angle for a different look.

For a centerpiece, I used a Snowflake Hurricane Shade by Partylite surrounded by an icy wreath and blue/white battery operated LED lights.

On each end of the table, I placed a trio of candle holders, also by Partylite, with floating candles inside. A mirror coaster and acrylic ice chips add to the frosty look.

Square vases filled with faux snow and a votive holder flank each side of the centerpiece. Each place setting has individual silver coloured votive holders surrounded by faux silver berries.

If you have also been having hot weather, I hope you feel a bit more refreshed after viewing these frosty pictures. If your weather hasn't been all that great, at least you can appreciate we don't have snow YET! (or at least, I hope you don't!)

Work in Progress

With summer offically here now, I've been thinking "beach" even though we live in the mountains with no official beach close by. I decided to create that feeling with a tablescape and have been working on it bit by bit. I am hoping to have it ready for a Tablescape Thursday soon.

"Shopping the House"

Do you really like shopping the house? This is where, instead of going to stores to purchase things for your tablescapes, you "shop" the house and use items you already own.

I like the idea of shopping the house as it saves money and uses things you have in new ways. However, what I find on removing items from one spot in the house and putting them into a tablescape that I plan to leave up for several days, is that the original spot now has to be redecorated or it drives me crazy. This leads to shopping the house some more to move an item to this spot. It ends up being a never-ending process which involves a lot of time and ultimately, going real shopping to fill the last void. Now, if you don't leave your tablescapes up very long, you can just return the original items to their original places or maybe "empty spots" don't drive you crazy and you can live with "missing decor" so there is no problem. Is is just me?

Summer Luncheon

This past Saturday, I invited 3 girlfriends over for a summer luncheon in our cabana. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed a leisurely afternoon.
I set the table with an all white theme giving a fresh cool look just right for summer.

My square white dishes were pulled into service for this tablescape. When I purchased this set, I was drawn to them because of the unique cups/saucers. After using them for awhile, however I am not so keen on them as I find it awkward to always have to line up the cup perfectly into the square outline on the saucer.
I kept the menu simple, serving Cream of Potato with Dill soup, Panini sandwiches and Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. We sipped frozen mojito drinks in the tall glasses.

The white vase and hexagonal covered dish beside it were Thrift Store finds. The white birdie is from HomeSense. I liked the "whiteness" and detail in of all these pieces.

Life gets so busy sometimes, it is wonderful when you make the time to sit and relax with friends. Note to self.....do it more often!

Learning

I'm sure most people can just get right to it but setting up a blog has been quite time consuming for me with a lot of of trial and error. I am enjoying the process though and gaining more knowledge with each step. Hopefully, my future posts will be a lot more interesting and you will see the evolution of the template of my blog coming along bit by bit. Thanks for your patience!
